I painted this when the first Harry Potter movie came out in our theaters (December 2001).
The book had only been published 4 years earlier, so that probably points to sorcery? :-<>
Step by step...from very rough basic sketch to the final layout. For Harry's head, I used a trick to buy time. The caricature was mainly in the proportions of the mouth and chin compared to the rest...
Every now and then I have to go through a boring part, namely: building the perspective. The rest usually feels nice to me.
It took me quite some effort to get the background behind Harry right. I hadn't seen the movie and I had very few pictures, so it was a bit of trial and error before I was satisfied...
With that problem solved I could really start: painting with gouache on sturdy Steinbach paper.
That's what it's all about in the end!
This was again an assignment for the Flemish children's magazine 'Klap'.
